As a team, we bring extensive knowledge and experience in delivering lessons and programs that provide students with opportunities to develop skills across the four High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) domains: creativity, thinking, leadership, and sport. Advanced learners are supported through high-quality lessons and tailored activities, enabling them to grow and thrive. Additionally, we offer a wide range of opportunities outside of the classroom to further challenge and inspire our High Potential students to explore and reach their individual potential.

High Potential and Gifted Education: A WWPS Art Case Study
While we provide a variety of enriching opportunities for our HPGE students, our Art Program is a special highlight. Mrs Erin Elsley, a talented local artist whose work features in many galleries across the region, is also a dedicated member of our leadership team. Since joining Wagga Public, Mrs Elsley has created countless real world and meaningful learning experiences for our HPGE-identified students in the visual arts.
If you wander around Wagga, you might spot some wonderful artwork that Mrs Elsley and her students have brought to life. These include displays at the hospital, the electrical station in Simmons Street Park, and the colourful murals decorating our school. It’s not just art lessons. Our students get to learn creative techniques directly from an accomplished artist, and they also have the chance to proudly share their work with the local community.
We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact Mrs Elsley continues to make, inspiring our students and celebrating their talents throughout Wagga.
Areas of High Potential and Gifted Education
High Potential and Gifted Education: Stage 2 enrichment groups
You might be wondering how to discover where your child’s true potential lies. As the saying goes, “You never know until you try.” That’s why our Stage 2 teachers create opportunities for every student to explore different activities and find something they are truly passionate about. While they might not be experts right away, developing an interest is the important first step on the path to mastery.
In the second half of the year, our Stage 2 teachers run enrichment groups, designing a five-week program centred on one of the HPGE domains: Physical, Creative, Intellectual, or Socio-Emotional. These programs focus on creating a meaningful project, giving students a chance to deepen their skills and engage with an area of passion. Students have the freedom to choose the program that excites them most, and each year the activities vary, carefully crafted by our teachers to match the interests and passions of our students.

- The Premier’s Debating Challenge helps our students to build logical arguments and confidence in public speaking.
- The Schools Spectacular is an iconic performing arts event that celebrates the talents, diversity and creativity of students from across NSW public schools.
- Participation in music ensembles (e.g. State Wind Orchestra, State Choirs) hones our students’ musical skills, discipline and ensemble awareness.
- The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
- The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
