Community Events
At Wagga Wagga Public School, we embrace every opportunity to share the joy of learning with our community. We regularly host events that invite parents and caregivers to join us and celebrate the achievements of their children. Each year, we thoughtfully plan different events that respond to the needs and interests of our school community.
Some of the school events we may host include:
Community events
Our after-school community events are always a highlight of the school calendar. Dad’s and Kids’ Nights are some of our most memorable, giving dads and father figures a chance to join their children for an evening of fun activities and quality time together. Here is a snippet of one of our recent 'State of Origin' themed Dads & Kids nights:
School events
Our school events provide wonderful opportunities for students to showcase their learning to their families. We thoroughly enjoy inviting our community to celebrate their children’s successes, and do so through a variety of events held throughout the year. We also host many 'student-only' events, such as excursions, which are designed to complement classroom learning and offer students the chance to spend time with their peers, build relationships, and have fun!
Open Classrooms
During our open classroom sessions, families are warmly welcomed into their child’s classroom. This is an opportunity for students to showcase what they are proud of and for families to gain a glimpse of daily life inside the classroom.
Celebration Days
At the end of each term, our stage groups come together to celebrate the learning and achievements that have taken place. Celebration Days are a time to enjoy a break from the classroom and to build relationships with classmates!
Excursions
Excursions are a special part of school life at Wagga Wagga Public School. Throughout the year, students enjoy a range of excursions, both big and small. Some are linked to learning in the classroom, while others are just about building connections with their peers!
Stage 2 and Stage 3 students also take part in major excursions, giving them exciting experiences and the chance to build independence and teamwork.
Parades
Parades are such a special part of school life, bringing everyone together in a fun and joyful way. We love keeping this tradition going with our own events, like the Easter Hat Parade and Book Week Parade. They’re definitely crowd favourites! We're always looking at which events families and students enjoy the most to make sure we’re creating happy memories for our whole community.
Fundraising and charity events
Not many schools would let you slime their principals or teachers, but here our staff and students are willing to do just about anything when it comes to supporting charity and fundraising. Our school hosts a wonderful variety of events throughout the year, each one inspired by the causes and issues that matter most to our community. While every event is unique, there is one thing you can always count on: plenty of fun, laughter, and good times for everyone involved.
Graduation
Our Year 6 graduation is a special time for reflection. Each year, we say goodbye to our Year 6 students at their graduation dinner, followed by the Wagga Public School tradition of ringing the bell and the whole school forming tunnels. While there is always lots of excitement at these events, there are also plenty of tears as we farewell the leaders of our school.
Down Days
Wellbeing is a key focus of our school, and we understand that everyone needs downtime from time to time. We appreciate the effort our students put into their schooling and recognise that sometimes their ‘sweaty brains’ need a break. That’s why Down Days are built into our regular routine. On a designated day each term, we pause formal learning and encourage our students to engage in mindful activities of their choice. During this time, the priority shifts from academic work to relaxation and building connections with classmates and teachers. As the priority is relationship building, and resting busy brains, our only rule, is no technology!
Visiting Shows and Workshops
While our teachers are pretty incredible, sometimes it's nice to learn from a fresh face! That’s why we regularly host incursions and attend excursions that relate to our students’ interests and classroom learning. These experiences vary each year, but can include theatre performances, visiting bands, First Nations workshops, and many more!
Community spirit
Our school loves the opportunity to give back and support worthwhile causes that make a real difference in our community. By taking part in charity events, we show our students what community spirit looks like and what it means to help those who are less fortunate. This helps our children develop empathy and grow into caring, community-minded individuals.
Recently, Wagga Public School worked with Nedd Brockmann to bring Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenges to our school community. Take a look at the event below:
